Differences between Braces and Invisalign

Differences between Braces and InvisalignMany adults turn to our orthodontist to help them get the smile they have always wanted or as part of a total smile makeover. Most adults will have the option of choosing between traditional braces and Invisalign clear plastic aligners. Dr. Poneh Ghasri DDS, West Hollywood dentist, will help you explore your options so that you can make the decision that is best for you.

Traditional braces and Invisalign will both correct minor and moderate misalignments and improve your bite. There are some major differences between the two types of orthodontic treatment, however. Traditional braces use metal brackets and wires to pull teeth into alignment. The process can be painful, and teeth can be difficult to keep clean while braces are on, which increases the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

Invisalign is virtually invisible and extremely discreet. The clear plastic aligners gently push teeth into alignment comfortably and painlessly, and the trays can be removed for thorough cleaning. Fewer orthodontist appointments are necessary since you will be in control of switching to new mouth trays according to your predetermined treatment plan. The trays will need to be worn for at least 20 to 22 hours a day for maximum effectiveness. However, they can be removed for cleaning, eating and even special occasions. Although Invisalign treatment can be more expensive than traditional braces, most dental insurance plans that cover traditional braces also cover Invisalign.
